Andy Helms: Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
Andy Helms is entering his 3rd year as Head Coach of the Eagles. In 2006 Coach Helms was introduced as the 14th Head Coach for the Chaminade/C-J Football Program. This is Andy’s 10th year as a Head Coach at the high school level with a current overall record of 56-38. Coach Helms began his coaching career as an assistant at Newark High School in 1993, before moving on to Denison University. At Denison, Andy coached Wide Receivers (1994), Defensive Backs (1995), Offensive Backs (1996-97) and served as the Offensive Coordinator (1998). In 1999, Coach Helms became the Head Coach at Lancaster Fisher Catholic, where he won the Mid-State League Cardinal Division Title and earned MSL Coach of the Year honors in 2001, before heading to East Clinton in 2003. There he posted a 26-8 record winning back to back conference titles and playoff appearances in 2004 & 2005. In 2005, Coach Helms was selected to coach in the Grange Insurance North/South All-Star Classic Game in Columbus.

There is no doubt that Coach Helms knows how to win! During his playing days, his teams only lost 3 games from 7th grade to his senior year at Newark Catholic High School. At the varsity level (1986-88), Andy was 38-3 helping the Green Wave to the 1986 & 1987 Division V State Title. During Coach Helms’ senior campaign, he lead his team to the State final four earning 1st team All-Ohio honors as a defensive back. Upon graduating from NC, Andy attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, where he continued his playing career and earned his B.S. in Industrial Management/Graphic Communications Management. During his 4 years, he helped the team to a 33-7 record and an NCAA Playoff Appearance in 1990. He was voted 1st team All University Athletic Association in 1991 & 1992 along with earning All-American honors both years. His senior year he was voted team captain. Andy currently holds the single-season and career record for interceptions at Carnegie Mellon. Coach Helms teaches business and PE classes at C-J. Andy is married to his wife Andi and they have four children.

Jerry Puckett: Running Backs/Special Teams Coordinator
Coach Jerry Puckett is entering his 24rd year as a coach in the C-J athletic department and his 20th in the football program (18th on Varsity). Jerry is a 1968 graduate of Stivers High School where he lettered in football, basketball, and track. He went on to continue playing football at Morehead State University. Jerry was first hired as a softball coach at C-J in 1985. In 1989 Coach Puckett joined the football program as a freshman coach before joining the varsity level, under long time friend Coach Jim Place, in ’91. In Jerry’s 18 years of coaching varsity football at C-J he has helped 8 teams reach the OHSAA playoffs, 2 win regional championships, and 1 to the first state title in school’s history (’02). In 1992 & 2000, Jerry was GCL & South West Ohio’s Assistant Coach of the Year and in 2002 he was the Division II Assistant Coach of the Year. Coach Jerry Puckett has coached many D-I Offensive backs such as Kelly Spiker (Dayton), Angelo Chattams (Ohio State), Andre Chattams (Purdue), Pernell Williams (West Virginia), Brandon Harrison (Michigan), and the one and only Javon Ringer (Michigan State). Jerry is married to his wife June and have three children Katrekia (T.T.), Shannon, and John (T.T. & John are in the C-J Athletic Hall of Fame). Jerry and June also have 7 grandchildren.

Marcus Colvin: Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs
Coach Marcus Colvin is entering his 5th year as a coach in Chaminade-Julienne’s Football Program. Marcus is a graduate of The University of Dayton where he played football. He was a three year started at defensive back and a Co-Captain his senior year. With a degree in History & Education he joined the faculty at C-J in the Social Studies Department for the ’04-’05 school year. Marcus joined the Varsity football program under Coach Jim Place for the ’04 season as the Defensive Back Coach. He has coached many college recruits as in Donye McClesky (Indian St.), Josh Harris (Morehead), John Myles (Ball St.), and Brandon Harrison (Michigan). Coach Colvin is recently married to his wife Amanda and current live in Centerville.

John Zaidain: Linebackers
Coach John Zaidain is entering his 38th year as a coach in the C-J athletic department. A 1968 graduate of Chaminade, John played for the Eagles from ’64 to ’67. He was the recipient of the “Big Eagle Award”. Coach Zaidain attended The University of Dayton and later continued his education at Miami (OH) University. He is in his 36th year on the faculty at Chaminade-Julienne High School. John Zaidain has held almost every position in the Football Program here at C-J. He recently finished up a long stint as the Head Freshman Coach to rejoin the Varsity where he once was the Head Coach (’88-’90). Coach Zaidain brings a tremendous amount of experience to the Varsity as he has coached alongside many assistants and under 4 head coaches over his years at C-J. John is married to his wife Kathy and has 2 daughters Jessica (Class of ’02) and Joanna (Class of ’05).

Brad Kassner: Offensive Line
Coach Brad Kassner is entering his 3nd year on the varsity football coaching staff. A 2005 graduate of Wittenberg University, Coach Kaz, which players call him, was a three-year starter and a two-time All-American on the offensive line. Before his playing days were over Coach Kaz played in the Aztec Bowl for the U.S. National Football Team against Mexico in 2004. After graduating Brad coached the defensive line for Wittenberg for one year. He joined the Chaminade-Julienne faculty for the ’06-’07 school year and served as the offensive line coach for the varsity football team. Coach Kaz currently resides in Kettering.

Chris Branick: Defensive Line
Coach Chris Branick is entering his 3nd year coaching football at Chaminade-Julienne. The youngest coach on the staff, Chris enters his 2st year at the varsity ranks. Chris began his coaching career under John Zaidain at the Freshman level working with the defensive line and linebackers. Coach Branick is currently in his last year at The University of Dayton working on his degree with a major in finance. Chris is a 2003 graduate of Chaminade-Julienne and played football all 4 years. His senior year (’02), Chris was a starter at defensive end and helped lead the team to a 14-1 record, capturing the 1st State Championship in Chaminade-Julienne history. Coach Branick’s youngest brother Sean is also a graduate of C-J (’07) and a former football player who voted Captain on the ’06 team.

James “Cali” Mabry: Team Transportation
James “Cali” Mabry is entering his 8th year working with the Chaminade-Julienne football team. California, or “Cali” for short, worked for the Dayton Public school system for 20 years serving as a school bus driver from 1981 to 2000 before his retirement. After one year Cali came out of retirement to join the C-J football staff for the 2001 season. He served as the personal driver of the varsity football team. In 2002 Cali began transporting many other sporting teams at C-J. The following year Cali expanded to include feeder schools, helping drive to and from field trips. Cali has become an important part of the Chaminade-Julienne football team’s daily operations, as the team transports a few miles off campus for practice.

Lori Dozer: Head Trainer
Lori Dozer is entering her 8th year as Head Trainer at Chaminade-Julienne. Lori received her degree in Sports Medicine and Health Education from Otterbein College. She then continued her education at Ohio University receiving her Masters in Athletic Training in ’95. Lori started her career at Green Memorial Hospital acting as Head Trainer for Wilberforce University and Greeneview High School. In 2001 Lori joined the staff at C-J. This will also be Lori’s 8th year serving as a health and sports medicine teacher at Chaminade-Julienne. She also supervises and teaches all student trainers about emergency medical procedures, taping, and recognition/management of athletic injuries. Lori is certified by the National Athletic Training Association.
